WJH Gala 2017
Warriors’ Journey Home Healing The Invisible Wounds of War: Listen – Speak –Heal held their fourth annual Gala Dinner & Silent Auction on Tuesday, April 4 at Guy’s Party Center. The filled-to-capacity venue was host to a relaxing, informative, and pleasant evening. Rick Kellar, President of the Margaret Clark Morgan Foundation provided the keynote address speaking to his experiences as a career Army Special Forces officer and to the need for community. Mike Shuman, member of the Tallmadge Warriors’ Journey Home Circle and Viet Nam veteran, spoke about his healing and reconciliation return to Viet Nam in 2014; the subsequent Viet Nam Bicycle project he and two other veterans have engaged in. They now provide bicycles to children in the remote villages of the Central Highlands. Jawid Ahmadzai served with the United States 10th Mountain Division in Afghanistan as an interpreter. He spoke about his adjustment to America as a refugee-immigrant through the International Institute of Akron. WJH was honored to host eight Afghan interpreters who have immigrated to the Akron/Cleveland Ohio area through the IIA.

The Warriors’ Journey Home model of healing emphasizes the necessity of community involvement and was demonstrated by the diversity of those in attendance. Garrett Hart of 91.3 The Summit Radio served as the Master of Ceremonies, Chris Reynolds provided music and the invocation. Board member Kara Ninham and friend of WJH Kim Ray of PNC Bank, along with their respective committee members organized evening with Jane Huffman organizing the Silent Auction.
